11 Cool Ass Ways to Use Botox (you’ll love me for this!)

the wonders of botoxIt’s no secret. I am a Botox® girl, so I’m super happy to introduce you to the latest innovative ways that Botox can help anti-age or just tweak the features on your beautiful face. Enjoy!

I’m not going to bore you with what you already know, that Botox can relax and prevent forehead lines, smooth out crow’s feet or lift an eyebrow <yawn>. Those things are awesome, sure, but pretty standard.

Today we’re going a step or two beyond what’s standard and talk about 11 new ways that cutting edge injectors are using Botox!

#1 way to use botoxFix That Gummy Smile!

Botox for Gummy Smile

Botox for a Gummy Smile

A gummy smile can be cute until it’s not. A little Botox injected into the area just beneath the nostrils can inhibit the contraction of the upper lip, dropping it lower and fixing a gummy smile.

The effect lasts about 5 to 8 months depending on the strength of the muscle and the rate at which your body metabolizes the Botox. Given that it can take as little as 5 units of Botox®, the cost is about $55 per treatment and is affordable to keep up (way better than surgery!)

teeny heartHEADS UP: Some dentists have started doing this and like to charge $200 to $300. Not necessary ladies! Find an experienced injector and pay what it’s worth (around $55)

#2 way to use botox

Pump Up That Upper Lip

Inject Botox in these two spots on the vermillion border.

Inject Botox in these two spots on the vermillion border.

A little bit of Botox (4 or 5 units) injected just above your upper lip, along the vermillion border, can relax your upper orbicularis oris, causing your lip to turn up just enough to give you a little pout.

I was a guinea pig on this procedure and I didn’t need it (you owe me one Amanda S.!).(You can read all about Botox to plump an upper lip, here.)

It takes just 4 units, under $50 worth of Botox®.  LOTS cheaper than fillers so you can avoid that crazy Kardashian pout. (y i k e s)

teeny heartIMPORTANT: Not for peeps with a gummy smile!  And dear God, don’t have just anyone do this to you. If injected wrong, your lip could go flat and you will not like it.

Soften a Strong Jaw / Narrow a Round Face

Not loving your face shape? Ain’t nothing but a thang! Botox can tweak your face shape too!

Botox in the masseter muscles can soften a round face or square jaw.

Botox® in the masseter muscles can soften a round face or square jaw.

Got a boxy square, uber round or pear shaped face that you just don’t care to live with for another second? You’ll be happy to know that Botox in the masseter muscle, on either side of your jaw, relaxes the muscles in that area softening the shape of your face.

It’s big in the Asian community for lessening a round shaped face.

Oh, and if you’re a teeth grinder this will nip that issue in the bud as well!

teeny heartFYI: Teeth grinding builds up those muscles making the area bulkier. I personally like that look up to a point – but when the masseter muscles are bulked up more than the width of your forehead it’s not a pretty look!

Ropy Neck NO More

Before and After Botox Injections in Platysmal Bands

Before and After Botox Injections in Platysmal Bands

You may not have this issue yet, but one day, when you least expect it, you will my dear! The happy news is that you don’t have to live with it.  A bit of Botox along your platysmal bands can do wonders on those ropy vertical lines.

Here’s how it goes down:

Your injector will decide how much you need. The effects last up to 5 months or so. I usually get 14 to 20 units and each unit costs anywhere from $10 to $12 each, depending where you go. (unless you’re in NYC where you can pay upwards of $23!)

Read more about the procedure in my Turkey Neck Series.

teeny heartTIP: Only use experienced injector people! I use Nancy Knoll at Dr. Meger’s and Dr. Burgmeier at Perfect Skin Laser Center, depending on our schedules.

# 5 ways to use botox

Tighten Up Your Jawline (bye bye jowls!)

Before and After Botox along my Jawline

A little Botox applied along the jawline can tighten up that area in a jiffy! Believe me, it works and I won’t live without it!

beautyblackbook heartNOTE:  This is for the beginning of jowls. Consider it “Plan A”. If you need a little more assistance after the Botox, then don’t rush out and get a neck lift just yet. A little dermal fillers may be the answer. Read a little about dermal fillers in the jawline here. (I’ll write about it more in coming articles so sign up below to stay in the loop!)

#6 ways to use botox

Perk up a Droopy Nose

As we age, for extra fun, our maxilla starts to turn in, pulling the tip of our nose down when we smile, making our nose look bigger in photos.

2 to 4 units of Botox to lift the tip of your nose

2 to 4 units of Botox to lift the tip of your nose

Being that we live in a virtual world and it seems that it’s not how you look but more how you look in pictures, we have to think of these things, right?? Two to 4 units of Botox® at the base of your nose can lift up that tip like nobody’s business.

Who knew? Well I did of course, and now so do you!

#7 ways to use botox

Shrink Large Pores

(There should be a trumpet playing on this one. In a good way.)

Before and After Intradermal Botox

Before and After Intradermal Botox

Orange peel skin can be the bane of one’s existence. I mean, no matter how perfect your bone structure is, or how bright your eyes are, large pores can knock your self confidence down from a 10 to a 7 in a jiffy.

So, Botox® to the rescue!!

When applied within the pores, intradermally, with a microneedle (I like the AquaGold® Fine Touch™), Botox can tighten up those large pores, making them appear smaller and less obvious. This is not as mind numbingly tedious as you would think either.

teeny heartNOTE: When applying the Botox® via microneedles, you’d be amazed at how fast it goes – and it doesn’t hurt as much as you’d think either. Regardless though, it is OH so worth it!

#8 ways to use botox

Control Acne Breakouts

Nothing like adult acne, right? I was trying out some new thick skin cream once and woke up with a constellation on my chin. Not fun – so I can’t even imagine if that was a long term issue.

If you’ve tried topical products such as  Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Expert, and they haven’t helped, or at least not as well as you hoped, then you may want to consider Botox.

When injecting Botox into the oily areas of your face, it can reduce oil production, resulting in fewer icky breakouts. BAM!  Acne no more!

botox for scalp

Ok, sounds a bit over the top, but for those of us who have wiry, frizzy, crazy hair, the process of washing it and blowing it out becomes more than a minor inconvenience.

When Botox is injected into your scalp, it blocks the communication between the nerves and the sweat glands – less sweat, less hair maintenance – more HOT Yoga!

It takes 150 to 200 shots to cover the whole scalp so most people concentrate on the part of the scalp that shows and call it a day. The procedure is tedious, and can run you upward of $1,000, but it lasts for 8 to 10 months and it’s an amazing convenience for those of us with high-maintenance hair.

Mimic a Forehead Lift

botox in hairline

Another cool effect of Botox® in the scalp or hairline area, according to New York dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engleman, is that as it tightens up the hair follicles (about 150 to 200 of them), it can have a slight pulling affect on your forehead, smoothing out that stubborn top forehead line that Botox® normally won’t reach.

teeny heartFYI: It also lifts your eyebrows, but if you want to do that it’s a lot easier just getting 2 to 6 units of Botox injected just above your eyebrow.

Prevent Unnecessary Scarring

Getting cut on the face really blows. I have one in my eyebrow that doesn’t grow any hair in it. I sure wish that I had known that a little Botox around the area could’ve prevented the area from moving, allowing the cut to heal closer together, making a smaller scar.

So there you have it! Botox is great for anti-aging, preventative maintenance (prejuvenation) and beautifying your features. Stay in the loop for the latest news on Botox® and everything beauty and sign up for my weekly newsletter!

Enjoy!
