Monistat Soothing Chafing Gel as Primer
Monistat Soothing Chafing Gel is the best product I’ve ever used for primer. Say WHAT?? As you may know I’m not a big makeup person.
My whole mentality is doing what I can to keep my skin in tip-top shape to skip the whole makeup hoopla before I leave the house. However, with primer I have to make an exception. You can put it on top of your sunscreen and tinted moisturizer, throw on a little mascara and look flawless.
I’ve tried many and spent lots of dollars finding the best one and I’ll have to tell you I found it in the most unlikely of places. In the feminine care aisle of my local drugstore.
What is Primer?
When you think of primer think of painting your house. Before you paint you fill in all the cracks and holes with putty to make a smooth surface to paint. Well, primer works the same for your skin in that it fills in the inconsistencies in your skin giving it a smooth, airbrushed finish.
When I first discovered primer I was afraid that it would clog my pores. I mean it literally fills in your pores so how can it not? But it doesn’t.
The active ingredient in primer is usually Dimethicone. Demethicone is a silicone based polymer and is non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores. It can actually protect your pores from absorbing other pollutants that can damage your skin.
How to Use Primer
I prefer to use primer over my sunscreen and tinted moisturizer because I have dry skin and I don’t let anything come between me and my moisturizer. But I’d recommend the same for you. It’s important to keep your skin hydrated to keep it youthful and avoid wrinkling. If you wear foundation then you should put primer before.
For everyday use you simply put a light layer over your shiny areas, or any areas that have larger pores, and it magically gives your skin that flawless Photoshop look. Seriously, as easy as that!
How to Choose a Primer
There are lots of primers out there. Trust me, when I discovered their awesomeness I checked out all the en vogue brands but finally settled on the unlikeliest of candidates, Monistat Chafing Gel.
It’s actually made to prevent chafing and irritation from friction in your inner thigh area but it totally stood up to Mac, Jane Iredale, Smashbox, Dermalogica, Benefit, Clinique, and many more in it’s use as a primer and for a fraction of the cost.
Cost aside though, I love it because it’s clear and light as opposed to the overthought recipes in the leading brands.
It’s super light and you barely feel like anything’s on your face. You can find it in the feminine care aisle of your local drugstore or order it online 3 for $21! That will last you forever.
To break it down, primer gives your face a silky, Photoshop finish, neutralizes the oily spots and protects your skin from outside pollutants. No reason to not make this part of your daily regimen. Use and enjoy!
